Because he is the sweetest little man and love to chew on everything, sometimes we give August a mini almond biscotti from Trader Joe's to munch on.  As you can see in the above video, Mia keeps a very close eye on him during these episodes.  She is our little vacuum cleaner.  

Waiting for Dogot, Part 1

One of my favorite plays from the 20th century is Waiting for Godot.  Have you read or seen it?  Estragon and Vladimir essentially spend the entirety of their time onstage just shooting the breeze; there isn't too much happening, but it is difficult to stop reading.  Their friendship and conversation just draws you in.

That's how I feel watching Mia and August interacting.  Mia has gone from super-anxious to relaxed but alert with August, who has officially taken notice of her and her many licks.  

I'm calling this the 'Waiting for Dogot' series.  There are many more to follow.

My Week in Photos

 He's a pretty cute guy.

 On Sunday afternoon, JP, August, and I head over to Phipps Plaza to resize my new ring, which gave my man a chance to be a kid in the Lego store.  His favorite set was $400, and for ages 16+!  Who knew they were so fancy?

 Apparently, last Saturday's breakfast was not up to August's standards.

 He looks quite smug in this photo, doesn't he?

How about a very dark, cropped outfit photo?  Boyfriend jeans- Lucky, sweater- LOFT, sandals- Bamboo, vintage scarf in hair.  This is my look these days.  Nursing does not look kindly on dresses.
Also, these jeans are from an afternoon spent trying on 20+ pairs to find a few that fit my post-pregnancy body.  Lucky, Levi's, and American Eagle won the challenge!

I was so excited to go for my first run with the stroller, Mia, and August on Wednesday.  We found a sidewalk trail by the Chattahoochee, and set out for a 2-miler.  August's feet made an appearance, and he didn't make a peep the whole run.

Mia was so happy to be out, too!  She is a good pup.

Abbi's Week in Photos

 Last Friday night, JP and I decided to just relax and have a date night in.  I did my nails (Sally Hansen's Salon Effects 'Out of Line,' in case you're curious), made brinner (waffles with scrambled eggs 'taco-style'), and watched Pineapple Express  for the umpteenth time.  It just put me in a good mood.

 Saturday morning was spent putting up shelves in the nursery closet.  Mia, as you can tell, was a truly on-point supervisor of the process.

 Then, in the afternoon, we tried out a new juice bar in Inman Park!  I was so happy to drink this fresh green juice; it's one of my favorite combinations.  The cafe, Kale Me Crazy, is definitely on my list of happy places in Atlanta.

Kudzu is a shop here in ATL that specializes in custom furniture, and we thought this bar would fit perfectly in the sitting room.  What do you think?
Just kidding!  You can only rent these front-half 50s' style cars for events.  They are pretty amazing, though.

We had a wonderful summer meal of scallion shortcakes with tomato salad and whipped goat cheese last week, and paired it with our remaining jalapeno sausages from Illinois (my mom freezes, then travels with them when she visits!  They are out of this world delicious.).  I can't wait to share the recipe with you next week!

There are still some beautiful hand-knit pieces coming in for the churro, and this one is from his Great-Aunt Marta in Spain.  How precious is that tag?!  Muchas, muchas gracias!  I just love it, and can't wait to see how fashionable this kid will be in just a few weeks!  We're only 31 days away now...

Wedding Weekend in Atlanta 2013

Last week and weekend was consumed with talk of white fabric and baby kicks.  We laughed at goofy Mia antics, we teared up at Haley in gorgeous wedding dresses, and we cooed over teeny onesies.  It was a really good time.

Last week's bump photo: 8.5 inches and 1.2 lbs.  (This week he's up to 1.5 lbs, and kicking his mom awake at 6am!)  This might be my favorite photo in this series yet.

Now, I obviously can't post photos of the wedding dress extravaganza.  It is a sacred and secret experience.  However, I can post a few details!  It should be noted that everything was stunning on Haley, and she will be an absolute vision walking down the aisle next March.  Also, none of these dresses is THE dress, which we did find and fawn over.  Mission accomplished.

This dress on Haley was absolutely exquisite.  Trust me when I say that it draped beautifully.

The crystal belt on this one really emphasized her tiny waist.  Plus, it made her engagement ring really sparkle!

Just look at this veil!  It completed the bridal look perfectly!

We went on some great walks around Roswell Area Park, which identifies all the trees found on the trails.  This one in particular is my favorite.

Haley teased Mia by swinging very high one morning; she was concerned about her aunt's well-being.

 On Saturday, Mom departed, and JP and I took Haley to Sweetwater Brewery.  She was less than enthused (just kidding!).  They do tastings for a couple of hours, and Haley was very excited to try out Sweetwater Blue on tap.

See?  I wasn't lying about her excitement.

I was really impressed by their tap water.  Cheers!

My husband is really patient.

By Easter Sunday night, JP was worn out.  The negative of having a black dog is that she blends right into dark photos, but Mia is curled up next to him on the far side of the couch.

It was a great long weekend trip!  We couldn't have had a better time.

Abbi's Week in Photos

 Last Sunday, I checked 'Drag Queen Brunch' off my DC bucket list.  Summer, Tara, and I hit up Perry's Restaurant for a brunch buffet and a show; my makeup skills will never compare to those of the woman above.  I love how nonchalantly the girl sitting at the table is eating her eggs while being serenaded by Princess Armani.

 This is what happens when pregnant women go to breakfast buffets.  JP said, "Look at the fruit you got!"  I love him.  He neglected to mention the plate of banana pudding and bacon.

 Making Valentine's Day cards!  Busy hands are happy hands.

 This week's outfit for a somewhat chilly day.  Sweater: LOFT, skirt: boutique in Spain, belt: H&M, booties: Cooperative via Urban Outfitters, scarf: gift from Patricia/Macy's.

Buenos dias from the churro and I!  We are off on a day trip to Baltimore- good times are ahead.  I see a Hairspray singalong coming up soon...'Good morning Baltimore!'

Abbi's Last (Two!) Weeks

Takorean!!  Caramelized tofu tacos topped with kimchi, sriracha, cojita cheese, and a bit of lettuce.  Best when served with Cheerwine.  If you live in DC, you have to go to Union Market to grab some of this!

Yo, my shirt has a skateboarding T.Rex holding a drink.  He's rolling.  We should all be rolling.

During the unseasonably warm weekend we experienced in January, we hit up the driving range and practiced our putting, too.  JP got a hole-in-one on the first try!  We should have just called it a day after that...what could be better?

I've already taken to borrowing JP's chunky sweaters and belting them around the waist to define what girlish figure I have left.  Comfy and cozy! (Zara sweater, Old Navy cargos, Clarks boots)

We took Mia on a walk around Roosevelt Island last Sunday, and she found a ton of mud (her paws should be white).  How could we stay mad at her; look at that happy face!

Seeing as how it is our last January in DC, we braved the cold and crowds for the inauguration on Monday.  Very, very cool to be there!  And we got free flags.  Win win.

 Summer and Luke were our terrific double dates.  So glad we could experience it together!

 The other morning it was 16 degrees outside (without wind chill!), and Mia did not want to go for a walk.  Too cozy and warm in bed.

Finally!  Some snow in the district!  Taken at 3:30am Friday (this whole pregnancy bladder thing is no joke).  We got an inch, so nothing to brag about, but better than nothing!

Abbi's Holidays and Life in Photos

Welcome to the first life in photos post of 2013!  Things have been exciting around the Diego household, with a lot of travel and plans being made for the new year.  I'll fill you in on more of the details next Friday, but certainly want to catch you up on our wonderful Christmas and New Year celebrations, as well as the first week of the year.  

On Christmas day, we had a massive paella, made by JP's uncle.  (That's white asparagus on top; yum!)  Then we all stood in front of it to take pictures, like at prom.  It's a Spanish tradition.

JP got a new remote-controlled airplane, which he and his dad built together.  Look at that wingspan!

We also went bowling!  Strikes for everyone!

 After staying in Atlanta for a week, JP, Mia and I drove to the frozen north of Illinois to spend some time with my mom and Brent.  Still fascinated by snow...

 ...but less fascinated after driving through a snowstorm to get there.  We had to stop twice to scrape ice off our headlights!  JP was a very conscientious, safe driver and we arrived in one piece; I, on the other hand, white-knuckled the dashboard and checked the weather incessantly.

 Mia got her own nook up on the second floor!  She loved watching other dogs and squirrels from this vantage point; what a lucky pup.

This is, sadly, the only picture I have of my mom from the trip!  We had to move their old love seat upstairs in preparation for a new couch, and this massive beanbag acted as the main seat in the meantime.  Let's be honest: it was really comfy!

 I got this adorable cardigan for a Christmas gift, and wore it the first day back at work.  Love those cute sheep!  Thanks, Mom!

 I absolutely love this new cookbook, and have already made three recipes out of it (making another for brunch on Sunday!).  Enjoying it with some caramel tea; two great gifts from people I love.  Thanks, Dad, Karen and JP!

 Last weekend, I decided to prove to JP that I can wear an outfit not consisting of jeans and a chunky sweater.  Zara dress, Anthro cardigan and boots, H&M belt, gifted infinity scarf, Madewell socks, Gap tights.  I was quite warm and toasty, and pretty put-together to boot!

We went to this last Sunday.  So fun!  Summer and Luke were our patient dates, and didn't seem to mind while I danced around to "Three is a Magic Number" and "Conjunction Junction."  They're good people.
